Smithfield – very old, very new

The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed a new walk now being offered –
‘Smithfield – very old, very new’. The new Museum of London will open in Smithfield
later this year, and this is an area of rapid change and development.
Join Six in the City guide Courtney to admire the contrasts of this area. We will walk
around the outside of the new museum, which will be next to the Victorian
masterpiece that is the meat market itself.
Just minutes away we will see the site of a burial ground for victims of the Black
Death, see the church that is the oldest continuous place of worship in London, a
note the corner said to be the place where the Great Fire of 1666 ended.
Smithfield is an area rich in history, about to face a very exciting future!
