Six in the City have a hidden gem to share with you on Frederick’s Place: After a guided walk where do we go for a coffee? Used to be Greggs – some of us are card-carrying members of the loyalty card scheme and are devotees of the 90p cuppa! But recently, when on one of our recces preparing our new walk to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee – Crowns, Coronations, Executions and More- Queens and the City of London – we spied a delightful sight- a new café, Where.s Fred.s, has opened up in Frederick’s Place off Old Jewry next door to the house previously occupied by Gladstone and now home to the Mercers Livery Company.
‘Where.s Fred.s’ coffee is strong and full of flavor and the range of cakes they have to accompany the drinks are delicious. Or you can tuck into something more substantial from their brunch menu, which is served until 4 pm. I decided on a truffle egg croissant, which was totally delicious, but it was a hard choice between that, chorizo hash or avocado on sourdough with omega seed mix! The café is bright, warm and colourful and you are guaranteed a warm welcome.
Do take a look next time you are in the neighbourhood.
